Pope Joan
In the fourth century AD, Christianity became a religion when the Emperor Constantine got involved. Structure was imposed upon the church
and, inevitably, centralisation staged in, with Rome emerging as the dominant
authority.
As with most religions when organisation becomes entrenched, women
were early casualties.
In 497AD the church in Rome issued an order that all churches must stop
ordaining women.
In Pope Joan, Joan Morris marshals the evidence.
Through the results of her research we see the struggle of a talented woman
to serve the Lord within the male dominated church structure.
We also see the clumsy efforts of the men who run religion to suppress not
just women, but history itself. Return to the Home page to buy Pope Joan.
